Jim Waneka Shares His Thoughts on the 20th Year Since 9/11, and His Song, “A Different Man”
This is the 20th year since the deadliest foreign attack on US soil – and a time for reflection. The attacks that day were perpetrated by those who sought to spread hatred, fear, and to destroy our democracy and our way of life. Those acts of war against America required the strongest possible response, and our dedicated military service members responded quickly and bravely. Just like thousands of our soldiers before them, they sacrificed so much while fighting for us all. We are forever in their debt.
As a nation, we can let the attacks of 20 years ago divide us or unite us, as we are nearing the point where our nation’s now-completed response to those acts of war can let us start to move forward. It is not easy. The path of negativity and hatred is the easy path, which I believe is the path our 9/11 attackers would want us to stumble down. I try hard to stay on the positive and helpful path, but it is difficult and sometimes I stumble.
I wake up each day giving thanks to God that I’m an American and I express my thanks by trying to help those who served and are now in need. I released the song “A Different Man” in part to call attention to some of the many organizations that support our deserving Veterans who have lost so much while keeping us free. I feel pride in seeking for our Veterans an expression of thanks and support for their sacrifices. I ask you to join me.
